Yorkstone & Portland Steps Projects
01
The existing handrail panels at this property were re-fitted and re-painted following the installation of the bull-nosed York stone steps. Victorian style railings with individual spindles fitted into each tread can also be installed.
02
York stone entrance steps catch the sun and give a warm, inviting look to the property.
03
York stone entrance steps create a stunning first impression to this London town house.
04
Basement Steps. The edges of these steps have been left without a bull-nose giving a sharp and stylish character.
We suggest bull-nosing steps that will have heavy traffic over them to help prevent chipping, but steps that are used less often can be left with square edges.
05
Yorkstone steps. We were able to lay these Yorkstone steps over the top of the original steps, with very little disruption to the property. The area beneath the steps was protected from the elements using our waterproofing method.
06
A rounded bull-nose has been added to all exposed edges of these steps to prevent chipping.
07
Portland Limestone treads with railings. Rather than separate tread and riser pieces these steps are solid blocks without a bull-nosed edge.
08
Black slate infinity pool surrounded by reclaimed Yorkshire paving flags.
09
A highly ornate sawn Yorkstone pier cap, the perfect compliment to old stock brickwork.
10
Ornate York stone pier caps fitted on a yellow stock brick wall with modern railing panels.
11
The rounded bullnose on a tread is not purely an aesthetic consideration; it helps prevent chipping on well used steps. For less well used steps, such as those to a second entrance, the bullnose may not be necessary. However, we still remove the sharp upper edge of steps without a bullnose to help prevent chipping.
12
English City Stone supplied and fitted the mixed grey and buff riven paving with an old yellow stock brick border at this town house in Holland Park.
13
A colourful mosaic entrance was created for this Holland Park town house using mixed colour riven York stone paving and buff coloured sawn Yorkstone steps.
14
Yorkstone steps with an ornate cast metal balustrade panel.
15
Yorkstone takes on a distinctive character after being left to weather for a number of years.
However, with occasional cleaning much of its original colouring can be maintained.

18
These balustrade panels have been cast from an original Victorian design. Though the method of production is traditional the material is much hardier than it was in the past and is unlikely to fracture over time. The metal work was both supplied and fitted by English City Stone.
19
We pride ourselves on being able to supply and fit very large pieces of York stone.

21
We designed and constructed this balcony and used traditional Victorian panels and balustrades. The metalwork has been fitted into riven Yorkstone paving.
22
Blue/grey Yorkstone. York stone makes a statement about your property no matter how small your entrance step is.
23

24
Tiling is another traditional method that can be used to transform your entrance. These tiles also compliment both York Stone and Portland Stone.

27
Buff Yorkstone Steps and Coping Stones. Tie other features of your garden in with your steps by using the same variety of stone. This Yorkstone will remain non-slip even when wet and is easy to clean.
28
English City Stone will transform the entrance to your property. We take on all the associated work. Using our in-house teams, we can install new metalwork or reinstate existing railings and carry out soft landscaping such as the planting shown in this photograph. Our design aesthetic in these areas is equal to that shown in our stonework.
29
Yorkstone is a great accompaniment to soft landscaping features. You don't have to completely cover a garden with stone if you want a good looking, low maintenance garden.
30
We used a mixed buff / grey sawn Yorkstone for the steps, paving and coping stones on this project.

Using sawn Yorkstone to cap walls and edge planting beds is an effective way of tying together the steps and the remainder of the garden and house frontage.
35
Portland Stone Steps and Cladding. Cladding with engraved address details compliments sawn and bullnosed steps.
36
Basement Steps and Manhole Cover. By filling a recessed tray cover with stone, we can hide unsightly features such as manholes.
